Fans & Top Fives
An aspiring romance writer blogging under the name Tumperkin had this to say about my mother this week:
I have a nostalgic fondness for the old 'black rose' Mills and Boon romance novels of the late 1970s and early 1980s. My mum had a sizeable stash of them and her favourite author was Charlotte Lamb who wrote prolifically for Mills and Boon in the 70s, 80s and 90s. She published over 100 novels with them as well as other single titles.

Thanks for that, Tumperkin, and I wish you all the very best in your own quest to be a romantic novelist. Although I'm published in other fields, I've written six full-length romances myself over the years and not one of them has seen a bookshelf, so I know how desperately uphill that struggle to be published can feel at times!
Tumperkin lists her top 5 favourite Lamb titles as:
1. Frustration
2. Dark Dominion
3. Fever
4. Obsession
5. Duel of Desire

My favorite Charlotte Lamb novel is Temptation. Linden Howard is a seventeen year old school girl at the openng of the book. Joss, the hero, is 22 years older than her and a very rich and spohisticated man. It would seem at first that this couple was hopelessly mismatched, but it turns into a fascinating story of betrayal, revenge and obsession. The balance of power shifts dramatically and unexpectedly. It's fantasic!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a truly marvellous novel, yes. The sensuality burns through every page, growing ever darker and more obsessive as the book draws to its emotional climax.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and sharing that with us. It's very much appreciated!
Anyone else with a favourite Lamb novel to share, and their reasons why?
My favorite Charlotte Lamb novel is "Seduction". I remember that it impressed me a lot when I read it years ago; it included a rape by the hero but it was so a strong and atmospheric story... Lamb was one of the best writers. I adored her.
ReplyDeleteun saludo from Spain

Thanks Akibi. My mother would have been truly delighted to hear that.
ReplyDeleteKeep reading romances!
All the very best, Jane
Charlotte Lamb is my favorite author and there's so many of her books that I have in my romance book collection. I would have to say that these are favorite: The Long Surrender, Pagan Encounter, Love is a Frenzy, Dark Dominion, Sensation, Frustration, Fever, and Compulsion. There are so many others and it's hard to name them all. I have about 80% of the books she wrote and plan the buy the rest pretty soon!
